Last year I was lucky enough to go to Punk Rock Bowling in the historic down town Las Vegas.
The line up is an eclectic mix of punk rockers and one of the main attractions with the original rebel, the first female to do rock’n’roll who is still playing to full rooms in Vegas almost 60 years later Wanda Jackson.
Seeing opportunity to talk to one of my musical and personal idols I harassed her management and was allowed 20 minutes with Wanda, an hour later we were still chatting…she spoke of her days with Elvis Presley with a romantic sparkle in her eye, her plan to take on the music industry, gushed over her experience working with Jack White, reminisced on the old days in Vegas, chatted about fashion and advised a sniffly, sick me to take care of myself.
I didn’t edit this too much as I love the raw energy to it.
This is the first of I hope many of my ‘dream come true’ moments and an opportunity to inspire and educate.
In the days of Instagram film isn’t that exciting, but I have a roll of film that lasts about 9 months and this is a shot of sun rising and @missshellmabelle at the ballarat beat rockabilly festival #mates #music #film #rockabilly #rocknroll #fisheye
Last Sunday I went to the 1950s Museum in Cameron’s Hill, NSW, Lost In The 50s. I’ve seen my fair share of 50s junk, especially after my USA trip, but this was such an adorable experience and so many photo opportunities! This is me with my man, Elvis.

So on approaching this trip I made a mission to contact people who i admire and ask for some of their time to chat to them about their lives, their career and one of those was Wanda Jackson. Having been the first woman to record rock’n’roll music she is up there on the list of amazing people. I don’t get nervous often, but my hand were sweating and i felt gittery. We walked up to her hotel room and she answers the door herself and invites us in! A quick photo before the photographer has to leave, she leans into me and then stays close and relaxed on the couch, sharing adorable stories before the interview even begins. I’m use to 15 minute interviews, yet after 50 minutes her manager calls time, yet Wanda and I could have chatted for hours.. we talked about everything girls talk about boys, clothes, hair.. and her turquoise eyes sparkled the whole time. I am so honoured to have had that moment, i am still shaking from the experience and cannot wait to listen to it. It’s such a compliment having such an experienced and seasoned performer thank you for such a great interview, it makes it all worth while.
