last night filming balcony tv was a beautiful chaos!
the camera girl was sick, my voice was going, the other present was running late, one band cancelled, the sound failed in one take, an overly loud busker, camera battery died but it was so much fun and the talent was incredible!
i was lucky enough to interview SKIPPING GIRL VINEGAR who are so gentle and lovely and gave me their album which is just incredible. the artwork, the stories the effort is just beautiful.
OH MERCY are one of my favourite Australian acts and their first album is one of my favourite records ever and although the singer is naturally socially awkward it was fun and their performance was perfect!
Lastly was HARRY JAMES ANGUS of The Cat Empire and Jackson Jackson.
He is about to release a solo album and whoa it’s such a fascinating collection of short stories told so beautifully.
from the first line i was addicted and was attentive until the last line.
so much amazing talent is exposed to me by this show!
last night i interview Matt the singer of Melbourne hardcore band MINDSET on my radio show.
Seeming Matt is shy and I don’t know him that well I was expecting him to be soft spoken and shy with minimal answers but in actual fact it was the opposite and one of my favourite interviews.
it’s funny how no matter someones personality if you’re passionate about something it shows.
I’ll have the podcast next week!
being sick means i finally have the time to go through some old tagged photos.
this is from Balcony TV when the keyboardist from Private Life was showing me the effects!
i was so interested!
-interview Bear Hands for SYN radio
-interview Jim Ward for Balcony TV
-punk n metal show where i interview Bad Taste
-edit Bear Hands interview
-go home and SLEEP :)
Owl Eyes is incredible! listen to that voice! look at her!
she was so sweet and adorable off camera too!
i was really looking forward to chatting her to, I’m a fan of her music.
this was really fun, it was a cool but still night and all of the acts on the show this night were of amazing talent and so quick and professional!
I’m lucky enough to be interviewing Owl Eyes again this Friday for The Hoist!
my interview with Melbourne band REDBERRYPLUM who have such an adorable and sweet sound!
i joke around with bands before an interview and say i’ve dished up all the dirt on them, i’ve spoken to their parents and ex-girlfriends as a joke but little did i realise this interview would end up real life awkward!
anyway if you are in Melbourne and don’t have plans i highly recommend to come see Red Berry Plum at the Prince Bandroom.
friday night was my first show of The Hoist for the season!
my co-host Matt was sick which was fine, after hosting ‘When Sid Met Ozzy’ I’m feeling confident presenting solo.
I thought I was interview 90s pop band My Friend The Chocolate cake and had what I thought was a pretty decent interview written.
The name of the member I was calling wasn’t listed on any webites which I found odd but thought it could have been the publicists name.
Alas the time comes, I have 4 minutes to do the pep talk on SYN and how it’s a youth based network and we don’t like drugs, alcohol or swearing and how it’s live to air, it’s a 2 part interview and in between I’ll play a track, then Ben asked if I had the track *insert title i don’t remember here* i said no I have 52 Stations, he had no idea what this was.
At 45 seconds I realised I’m interviewing a solo artist and not My Friend The Chocolate Cake or anything that has anything to do with My Friend The Chocolate Cake…. lets say the talent wasn’t happen and hung up.
I lined up a few songs to pass the time while I called my executive producer to tell her what I had done and asked if she had any info on the talent of which she explained he was electro and had a gig at the Espy SAVE! I call the talent back and apologised and explained myself and said look I have 3 minutes we can make this work, I know you’re electro and I know you have a gig in St Kilda… BUM BOW neither were correct!
I then got an angry “call me back when you know what you’re doing.
Monday night on balcony tv we had the lovely local band redberryplum
I joke to bands that the interview is going to be really deep and will bring up ex’s etc as a joke but this one I really did by accident!
The acts that are supporting them are all on the same label so I mentioned the bands have a relationship what I didn’t know is they are also ex lovers!! Awkward!!!
Alas they were sweet and gave a beautiful performance
check out the photos by the amazing KID KING from Balcony TV this week
WA band split seconds came to The Hoist tonight and did an interview and were adorable!
I interviewed them for Balcony Tv on Sunday so it was an easy interview!
It was my last show of The Hoist and matt didn’t make it so Tim filled it.
It went so fast and was loads of fun.
I’ll miss it I love how many new Bands I discover from hosting The hoist but I’m so excited to start hosting a punk and metal show!
After the show tonight I headed to Gertrudes Brown Couch to see mindset and Playbook which were great!
It was so nice to go to a small gig again!
Tonight on the hoist matt and I interviewed Melbourne band pets with pets…. Damn it was fun but they are on another planet! So much fun to chat with though! Im anti-drugs and I hate to say it but sometimes it makes for great music! Grinspoon, horrible live show when Phil is sober. The 60s and 70s….. Enough said.
