when i headed to Brisbane for Big Sound i filmed an episode of Balcony TV Melbourne.
after an awkward first take and a minor argument between the singer and i this is the final take and it’s lovely and beautiful sounds!

Big Sound Conference 20117 - 9 September
The Big Sound Conference is kind of like a three-day business-meets-pleasure lunch date, where various bigwigs from across the music industry and various musicians who once did something good join together to confer on various music-related topics.
If you don’t mind paying for the privedge, it’s a great opportunity to get a unique insight into how the music industry works from people on the inside of the game. This year sees the likes of promotion juggernaut Michael Chugg, Bluesfest director Peter Noble, Arts & Crafts CEO Jeffrey Remedios (Canada), label representative from Beggars Group’s Simon Wheeler (US) and Seymour Stein from Sire Records/Warner Brothers US all take a seat at the table.
In 2009 the Big Sound organisers rejigged the format a little to put more of a spotlight on the music (errrr…..), giving rise to BIG SOUND LIVE, which this year sees 80 live acts playing across the Valley over two-days. Unfortunately, and in my opinion somewhat typical of the music ‘business’, you’ll have to shell out $55 to get yourself a wristband to see all that wonderful music.
For more info head to the Big Sound website.

done and dusted!!!

So I did Big Sound, well attempted to but due to get the flu on the first night and having to keep it low key it wasn’t the Big Sound everyone else was having.
I missed the forums yesterday as I was sick in bed, thankfully Robyn looked after me well.
I managed to catch some bands last night and make some meetings.
I saw:
Gossling; she’s cute but sickly cute. Her baby voice got to me and I went across the road to see
Tiny Ruins; who is a subtle in her appearance but such a strong voice with heartfelt songs! She’s like a jeff Buckley.
Then I headed to see a personal favourite of mine Boy In A Box; they played as a 3 piece to a packed audience and it was disappointing. They sounded empty and weak and looked nervous and awkward, saying that word is their management loved it as a 3 piece, my thoughts were oh shit this is the end!
Split Seconds; I’ve been wanting to see since I interviewed them for Balcony TV.
They were so different to what I’d expected! So powerful and energetic unlike the way they sound recorded!
Next was WIM. They were the feature album on SYN and I loved what id heard.
That afternoon I filmed an episode of Balcony TV Brisbane and the band I interviewed was WIM. Out of all the interviews I had done it was defiantly the most weird experience, I will explore that in another post but I promised them I’d see them, it was amazing and beautiful and I hope it’s not the last time I see them!
Last for the night was Jinja Safari, although by then I was exhausted and left after one song, but it was as I’d expected.
Now I’m on the skybus to the train station to go to work. They person next to me is pretty much ontop of me.
Eek

Leaving Brisbane

Leaving Brisbane

It’s 4:51am, I’m at Brisbane Airport with one of the worst flus I’ve had.
My flem is bloody and my body aches.
In 5 hours I’ll be starting work for the day!
I need to write a 300 word bio on myself for a new magazine I’m contributing for…: help!!!

You know what this means?
I’m in Brisvegas!!
It’s late and I’m tired and an old lady is telling me about the days when Kensington smelt like cow poo and she liked it.
big sound starts tomorrow and I’m half excited half exhausted thinking about it!

This is one of the cats we’re looking after.Their original owners can’t have them anymore because they moved back overseas. We’re supposed to be taking them to the RSPCA and i didn’t see them today, and my room mate told me they’d already been taken there.I cried because i’ve gotten really attached to them. He was joking, and they’re still here, but we can’t keep them.If there’s anyone in brisbane who’d like some free cats, or even one, please let me know.I really want them to go to a good home. The other cat is exactly the same, just extra fluffy.
